Sunbrella® Fabrics Launches Three-Part Design Series with “Perspective New England”

Web-Based Video Series and Blog Tackles Design Challenges At Home, On the Water and On an Adventure

Sunbrella® fabrics has launched Perspective New England, a three-part design journey exploring the versatility of Sunbrella fabrics for every aspect of life. Back for a second year, the Perspective project is a Web-based video design series created to inspire consumers with elegant and practical design solutions at home, on the water and on an adventure.

Perspective New England will explore a series of design challenges through three design projects—“The Rhode Yacht,” a vintage revival of a 1977 Airstream Argosy Trailer; “The Real Yacht,” an M36 daysailer luxury yacht by Morris Yachts; and “The Beach House,” a family home in Narragansett, Rhode Island. All three projects look to accomplished designers to bring Sunbrella fabrics to life.

“Last year’s project, Perspective Atlanta, helped grow people’s understanding of Sunbrella fabric as an interior upholstery option that is chic, modern and beautiful. This year, we wanted to expand the story to show the versatility of the fabric, from well-known applications, like awnings and marine tops, to its use in kid-friendly design and luxury marine interiors,” said Gina Wicker, design and creative director for Sunbrella fabrics. “We are excited to partner with amazing designers, as well as Island Outfitters, Morris Yachts and the Hall family, on this design journey across New England.”

Perspective New England will launch the first series of videos in late June. The Rhode Yacht tells the makeover story of an Airstream Trailer and introduces viewers to Greg Hall, the owner of both the trailer and the beach house, and Morris Yachts, builders of custom, luxury sailing yachts, who were instrumental in rebuilding the trailer’s interior. The Rhode Yacht will then set off on a mobile marketing tour along the New England coast, visiting regattas, boat shows and music festivals.

Launching in mid-July, The Real Yacht showcases the many ways Sunbrella fabrics can be used both above and below deck on a new, special-edition Morris M36 that celebrates the tenth anniversary of this iconic daysailer. The design will feature high-end decorative fabrics by Richard Frinier for Sunbrella. Kate Gable of Gable Design Group will spearhead the design.

“With The Real Yacht design, we’re deliberately using high-end fabrics in the marine interior to show that Sunbrella fabrics are not just for above-deck applications like Biminis and enclosures,” Gable said. “A daysailing yacht is really a home on the water. With Sunbrella fabrics, you can have the same comfort and style of home without compromising on performance.”

The Beach House features a series of design challenges that will resonate with families everywhere. Kate Jackson of Kate Jackson Design will help the Hall family—Greg, Stacie, their two daughters and two dogs—create a coastal chic design that is as sophisticated as it is durable.

“As a mother of three, I understand that inevitable wear and tear from active kids and pets can sometimes spell disaster. That’s why Sunbrella fabric is really perfect for every family,” Jackson said. “I look forward to using Sunbrella fabrics while tackling the challenges the Halls present to make their home beautiful, functional and most importantly, worry-free.”

The fabric-inspired story of Perspective New England will be told digitally on a dedicated website and through additional online content including short videos on tough interior design challenges, such as removing stains from fabric, how to hang window treatments or how to arrange furniture. The series also will educate consumers on Sunbrella fabrics available at the retail level and how to gain access to additional Sunbrella resources available to the trade by working with designers and fabricators.

Video and blog content will launch on June 3 and continue through Sept. 30. Consumers can travel with The Rhode Yacht on its tour across New England by following the hashtag #RhodeYacht; keep up with the full project by following @Sunbrella and #PerspectiveNE on Twitter and Instagram.
