Designer Richard Frinier Awarded for his CARAVAN Collection of Sunbrella® Fabrics

Vintage Moroccan Rugs Inspired Award-Winning Collection

As a visionary in the world of furniture design, Richard Frinier continues to amaze and inspire with his CARAVAN collection for Sunbrella® fabrics. Heavily influenced by his worldwide travels, the collection earned three distinctive awards in 2016.

CARAVAN received the GOOD DESIGN™ Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in conjunction with the European Centre for Art, Design and Urban Studies. The program, founded in 1950 by celebrated design icons and luminaries Edgar Kaufmann, Jr., former MoMA curator, Charles and Ray Eames, Russel Wright, George Nelson, and Eero Saarinen, honors both products and industry leaders that have chartered new directions and pushed the envelope for competitive products in the world marketplace.

The Journal of Design Architects presented Frinier and Sunbrella with an ADEX Gold Design Excellence Award, one of the largest and most prestigious awards program for product and project design in the A&D industry.

CARAVAN was also named one of Architectural Record magazine’s Products of the Year for its vintage Moroccan inspired patterns woven with Sunbrella acrylic fiber that is fade proof, easy care and bleach cleanable.

In addition to these notable and significant awards, Frinier and Sunbrella were named Best of Year Honorees by Interior Design magazine. Over Frinier’s career, he has earned more than 90 design and career awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Casual Furnishings Association, and he was also recently inducted into the American Home Furnishings Home of Fame – Class of 2016.

“We’re proud to be partnered with Richard Frinier and to celebrate our collaborative, award-winning CARAVAN collection,” said Greg Rosendale, residential market manager for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, the manufacturers of Sunbrella fabric. “Richard’s unique and authentic collections continue to illustrate his ability to translate worldwide culture into design.”

In CARAVAN, Frinier pairs neutral shades of sand, camel and carbon with authentic interpretations of vintage Beni Ourain rug patterns with accent colors of henna and indigo to reflect the region and culture of Morocco. The neutral hues allow the fabric to easily mix and match to complement and enhance modern or traditionally-styled residential and hospitality spaces. The collection portrays a level of subtle eclectic elegance with two base cloth constructions and five decorative and coordinating patterns.

The CARAVAN collection by Richard Frinier for Sunbrella is available exclusively through Pindler. High-resolution images are available in the Sunbrella Press Room.
