Coordinated Assortment of Bold Tonal Textures Highlights Frinier’s Understated Design Elegance
Award-winning furniture and textile designer Richard Frinier has teamed with Sunbrella® fabrics for a new collection of textured tone-on-tone fabrics that elegantly merge indoor and outdoor design. Set in neutral tones of natural, wheat and granite, the Contex Collection of twills, herringbones and other textures represent unique textile design without any limitation in durability.
"Following the launch of the Origins' Collection, our very first select line of Renaissance recycled yarn constructions, Contex focuses in on an even more compelling assortment of tonal textures,” said Richard Frinier, whose design aesthetic has been sought after for more than 30 years by architects, interior designers and consumers. “I call the collection Contex, because the historical origin of this word means ‘to weave together’ and for the rich, visual appearance and textural hand we were able to achieve using Sunbrella Renaissance fiber content.”
The Contex collection weaves together Sunbrella yarns with the brand’s Renaissance recycled yarn content, resulting in fabrics with high-end design and a unique environmental story. The new collection, currently available only to manufacturers, adds substantially to the expanding collection of Sunbrella fabrics made with recycled content.
“Together, Sunbrella fabrics and Richard Frinier continue to develop fabrics that are equally at home indoors and outdoors,” said Gina Wicker, design and creative director for Sunbrella fabrics. “The constructions and textures of the fabrics within Contex are intentionally designed to be luxurious and the tonal color palette adds to the elegance of the collection with a subtlety found indicative of high-end design.”
Fabrics in the Contex collection are presented in neutral, tone-on-tone and softly contrasting color ways, each with an impressive surface texture and interesting pattern that heightens the collection’s design aesthetic.
Off the Grid
Off the Grid is a timeless and richly textural basket-weave pattern set in a chunky, heavyweight construction. Grounding the collection with its substantial construction, the fabric is expressed in the luxurious and subtle color ways of Papyrus, Wheat, Mushroom, Granite and Ebony.
On An Angle
Refined, with a striking textural construction of heavyweight twill, On An Angle features a heavy yarn construction in both the warp and the fill. The fabric is offered in Papyrus, Wheat, Mushroom and Granite.
Upndown
A slightly heavier Herringbone weave, Upndown features chunkier yarns for a substantive yet subtle surface texture. Available in Papyrus, Wheat, Mushroom, Granite and Ebony.
Nubby
With a name taken from its texture, Nubby represents a current yet enduring design with varying sizes of chunky yarns in a raised and dotted weave that mimics a sisal-like pattern. The fabric is offered in Papyrus, Wheat, Mink and Ebony.
Seesaw
Beautifully scaled and balanced, the pattern Seesaw zigzags with a mid-weight, large Chevrons with a three-dimensional quality. The fabric is offered in sophisticated tone-on-tone color combinations of Natural, Papyrus, Ash, Heather, Mushroom and Ebony.
Sideways
Sideways has a classic and directional surface texture visible within a subtle and textured horizontal stripe pattern that is defined by the width and spacing of the weave. The fabric is a perfect complement to Seesaw. Casually elegant colors for the fabric include Papyrus, Ash, Heather, Mushroom and Ebony.
Uptown and Downtown
Uptown and Downtown, both mid-weight herringbone patterns, have a chunky appearance and are substantial upholstery fabrics. Both fabrics are offered in Natural, Papyrus, Ash, Heather, Mushroom, Granite and Ebony.
Diagonal
Diagonal is a mid-weight, classic twill weave that is characterized by diagonal lines that are visible to the eye and soft to the touch. The fabric is complementary to Uptown and Downtown in its construction and is offered in the same softly contrasting color palette of Natural, Papyrus, Ash, Heather, Mushroom, Granite and Ebony.
